The Tribal Water Resource Department, with oversight of the elected tribal officials through the Chippewa Cree Business Committee, tends to business associated with dams construction, water rights negotiations, and the administrative detail and tribal role in the North Central Montana Regional Water System.

The Tribal Water Resource Department maintains management of environmental protection and historic preservation for the Chippewa Cree Tribe. The department also maintains a geographic information system

The Tribe first established environmental protection programs in 1995 through funding from US EPA for the Tribal General Assistance Program and for Wetlands Protection and with funding from the Administration for Native Americans for Environmental Regulatory Enhancement. In 1996, the CWA 106 program began at Rocky Boy’s for Water Pollution Prevention and Control.
